Biography:

I can remember the exact moment that I decided what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It was third grade, Mrs. Carey’s class. We were given an assignment to write a short story; the characters and plot were up to us, but the narrative had to include a teddy bear. Many classmates groaned at the project and ended up writing stories about their favorite teddy bear. Not me. This was my chance to take my creativity to another level. It didn’t take long for me to craft my humorous tale about a stuffed bear that came to life when it snowed and all the trials and tribulations that came about when the bear ventured out into the bad weather. “The Adventures of Snowy Day Bear” was a hit with my teacher, and the kids in my class and it was then that I knew I had a knack for writing.

Throughout the years, I became interested in school subjects where the focus was on written communication. English and Literature were a few of my favorite courses, and I always preferred essay tests over multiple choice because I was able to bring topics to life through descriptive writing. Penning stories, songs and poems was second-nature to me and I took every opportunity I could to further my ability. It wasn’t too surprising when I entered college at The Ohio State University that I knew I wanted to pursue a career in writing. I graduated with a degree in Journalism and was ready to make an impression on the world, one word at a time. As much as I loved writing, however, I was somewhat concerned that I was limiting myself by focusing only on my writing abilities. Would a journalism degree hinder me from growing in other directions?

Enter IMS. When I discovered the broad range of services that IMS offers I was hooked. Here, not only do I get to write, but I also manage various other communications projects, including all aspects of event production, such as online registration, onsite management, website development and video production. And, the best part is that I get to use my talents, both old and new, to make a difference every day.
